What is my blood pressure, and what do the numbers mean? Almost every time you go into a health care provider’s office, you will have your blood pressure checked at the start of the visit. Click HERE to find out what the numbers mean, and why your blood pressure is so important.

What are the risks of High Blood Pressure? Untreated high blood pressure increases the strain on the heart and arteries, eventually causing organ damage. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney failure and erectile dysfunction.  It can also cause damage to the tiny vessels in your eyes which can greatly impact your vision.

How is High Blood Pressure treated? Depending on the severity, high blood pressure can be treated with lifestyle adjustments, weight loss, stress reduction, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and/or medications.  Your provider will help you develop a treatment plan and may identify other possible causes for high blood pressure including diabetes, sleep apnea, kidney disease, and certain medications.
