IMPORTANT 2026 Medicare Advantage Plan Changes

Most Medicare Advantage Plans (Medicare “Part C”) in Vermont are ending on December 31, 2025.
For 2026, most Vermonters on Medicare Advantage Plans will return to Original Medicare (Parts A & B) and will need to enroll separately in a Part D plan for drug coverage.
You will receive a notice from your current Medicare Advantage Plan company that will explain your options. It appears you will be automatically switched back to Original Medicare (Part A and B) but will need to enroll in a Part D plan for drug coverage. If you are unsure if you will be automatically switched back to Original Medicare, call your current Medicare Advantage Plan, or call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 or the State Health Assistance Program at 1-800-642-5119.
Medicare Part B
In 2026, the Medicare Part B premium is projected to be $206.50 per month. If you were on a Medicare Advantage Plan in 2025, you were paying this as part of your monthly premium.
Medicare Part D
Take action to sign up for a Part D prescription plan during the annual open enrollment period by December 7, 2025.
- If you are losing your Medicare Advantage Plan and you don’t sign up by December 7, you can still sign up before December 31 to get a January 1 start date for your prescription coverage.
- Signing up after December 31 will result in a gap in prescription coverage.
- For those losing their Medicare Advantage plan, the last day to sign up for a Part D plan through your Special Enrollment Period is February 28, 2026. That is why signing up before December 7th will prevent a gap in drug coverage
