Based on the most recent statistics, 40% of Americans are obese and another 30% are considered overweight. When providers ask patients about their health goals for the next year, 7 out of 10 will say that they want to lose weight.

We’ve all read about these new fab diets, and we’ve heard testimonials from friends and neighbors about the latest, greatest, sure-fire way to lose weight permanently. But what really works for long term weight loss? Are these drastic food plans healthy, or sustainable? Am I just going to gain the weight back?
